Follow and Leadership aren't usually mentioned in the same sentence. But for any Christian leader, it's important for us all to remember that we are called to follow.....Jesus.
Just like when he called his disciples...he said "come follow me". While we are called to lead others...our calling is to call others to follow Jesus...not us. In the practical....this means he is always the first consultant because he is in charge. God's not to busy, he can handle our questions. Asking him initiates a teachable moment for us....plus, who wouldn't want to talk to someone who can see tomorrow as clearly as they can see yesterday?
We live in an incredible time of available knowledge......In a moment we can access information that used to take a life time to discover. It's important to always ask when information crosses our path...."did my following Jesus lead me here?" Did I go to Jesus first, and then in his providence he led me to this book, or teaching, or study etc. If it was something other then Jesus that led us there....fear of failure, curiosity, pride, chasing a fad etc., then we could end up somewhere Jesus never wanted us. Even when I read a book or teaching, there are somethings that God "highlights" for me, and others that while good, aren't applicable to me at that time. No one leads better then Jesus.....No one knows more...No one offers more...No one knows you better. Leading is following.....Jesus.
