Thoughts from our trip to Joplin.......

Written by Skipp Phipps

A few weeks ago, Life Fellowship was able to go to Joplin MO. and help with clean up efforts and cook for the many volunteers and victims of the tornado.  However, this note is not about us....or the things we or any of the thousands of volunteers did that day....it's about our God.

At one point during the day, I took a moment to just look around me.  I was really overcome by the devestation.  Everywhere you look, nothing was left untouched.  There was the stench of things rotting, dirt everywhere.  People could only take what was left of their homes and put it in a pile at the side of the road for the proper authorities to come and dispose of.  Many homes you would look at and just say....."it would have taken a miracle for anyone to have survived in there".  Families will be forever changed because of the events of that day and we grieve with them...and pray for their comfort...and act on their behalf.

As I stood looking at the rubble....I thought..this must have been what God saw from heaven.  Total destruction....lives destroyed by sin.  Families torn apart....rubble of what people had built.  Loved ones lost and scared and injured.  No hope.  Someone must come help....a saviour is needed....a miracle is needed to survive the destruction that is all around us.  Amazing to me that Jesus left the majesty of heaven to come to our world torn apart by sin.  To come walk amongst the rubble, the stench, the hopelessness to bring hope....to rescue us when we couldn't rescue ourselves.

Our world is still marred by sin.....but our lives can be saved, rebuilt, better than we ever once imagined.  I am thankful Jesus came to our rescue......It's not just his hand that has been outstretched.....but his whole self.

Love ya...

Skipp
