Way back in January of this year, as New Year's resolutions were being discussed (not by me of course, but by others), I asked the Lord what He wanted to do in my life in 2011. Sort of like, "God, what are Your resolutions for my life for this year?" Well, He "hit" me with a surprise. God is pretty good at surprises, in case you were wondering. I sensed He was wanting to grow certain things in my life. Knowing my fondness for acronyms, He gave me something easy to remember, H-I-T.*
*Three of my favorite sounds growing up involved this word, "hit". One, the sound of a wood bat making solid contact with a baseball (base hit); two, the sound of a jump shot going through the net (he hit the shot); and three, the sound of hitting someone at full steam on the football field (what a hit). Mind you, I was on the receiving end of number three more often than the giving end. It definitely sounds better from the giving end.
Anyway, I was excited the Lord responded, and that He was interested in growing something in my life. The H-I-T represented Humility, Intimacy, and Tenacity. To be honest, I wasn't as excited about the "humility" part. As a matter of fact, I questioned whether the Lord really needed to do any more growing in me in that area. "Lord, are you sure about this "humility" bit? Haven't we grown enough of that crop already?" I immediately heard the "buzzer sound" when you give the wrong answer on a game show.*
*Not literally! Not sure there will be game shows in heaven, so God probably doesn't have an angel assigned to the "Wrong Answer Buzzer".
God patiently assured me that He knew what He was doing, and yes, this would be a good year for that crop. Thanks, Lord! And if I cooperated, He would teach me to be more like Him through learning humility, intimacy, and tenacity.
I look forward to blogging about how God and I are doing in these areas in the upcoming weeks. I will also look forward to your thoughts.
Blessings!
